The Modern Records Centre at the University of Warwick is an archive covering social, economic and political history.

Archive Description

Founded in 1973, the Modern Records Centre is the main British repository for the national archives of trade unions, professional associations, employers’ and trade organisations, and also has strong collections relating to pressure, protest, campaigning and welfare groups, radical politics and cycling history.

The Modern Records centre hold the papers of Sir Victor Gollancz (1893-1967), publisher and humanitarian campaigner, Aaron Rapoport Rollin (1885-1972), trade unionist and Jewish activist, and William Wess (1861-1946), trade unionist, socialist and Jewish activist.

Digital Accessibility

The Centre has been creating digitised collections since 2011 although the material digitised is only a tiny proportion of the overall holdings. These digitised collections can be found online and digitised material will also be linked from the online catalogue entry.

Access Information

The Modern Records Centre is open to all although it is preferable to make an an appointment by email before visiting.

You will need to bring some form of photographic ID (e.g. driving licence, passport, university card) to show on arrival.

At least one working day’s notice is required in order for material to be produced in advance. Material may also be ordered onsite.

Researchers are required to fill in an online booking form, preferably before arrival, although it is also possible to fill it in at the MRC.

Opening times: Monday to Thursday, 9am – 5pm, Friday, 9am – 4pm.
